2007 Updates
24 December 2007
- Colorado Highways: CDOT has updated their online route and
milepost databases to reflect the two massive route swaps that took
place this past year (North Front Range and Colorado Springs) so I was
able to update length and milepost guide info for numerous routes:
- SH 21, 83, 105, 115 and 392.
- The SH 16 description is not showing it as extended along Mesa Ridge Pkwy, so put in that caveat for it.
- The new SH 263 data clarifies its eastern end as Fern Ave, not west of Fern as I originally thought.
- SH 86 has a different series of mileposts for its realignment along Founders Pkwy so updated that.
19 December 2007
- I've gotten a new computer system (2.0 GHz 20" iMac, yeah baby!!!) so I updated the bottom of the About This Site page.
7 December 2007
- Colorado Highways: The massive Colorado Springs route swap to
create SH 21 along Powers Blvd became effective on October 1, so it was
time to update all the routes affected. But note that signage hasn't
changed yet and won't until the spring. The damage: SH 16 extended east; SH 21 created; BL 25 turned back; SH 29 turned back; SH 38 turned back; SH 83 along Academy Blvd turned back; Spur SH 83 turned back; US 85 along Lake Ave turned back; east end of SH 105 turned back; and SH 115 extended north to I-25.
30 November 2007
- Colorado Highways:
- Given the vote this month creating it, updated the list of cities I-25
goes through with Castle Pines North. Also updated the guide and
history sections with the completion of the Castle Rock widening from
Founders to Wolfensberger.
- Updated I-70 page with the new, higher clearance (13'-11") at the Eisenhower Tunnel.
- Updated the TRANs page due to the
I-25 Castle Rock widening recently completed. Also changed the status
of the I-25 Colorado Springs and I-25-76-270 projects to "nearing
completion".
- Updated the Municipal Trivia page due to Castle Pines North's formation.
- Colorado Freeway Exits:
- Updated I-25 list to show the construction of the Ridgegate interchange in Lone Tree.
- Updated I-70 list to show the new clearance height at the Eisenhower Tunnel.
7 November 2007:
- Colorado Highways:
- Uploaded all the photos
associated with the opening of the E-470/I-70 flyover, including
pictures from the opening ceremony. Also includes some photos from
E-470 between Parker and 6th.
- Uploaded a photo of the I-225 tunnel to I-25.
6 November 2007:
- Colorado Highways: Updated the history and guide sections of the E-470 page with the recent opening of the flyover at the I-70 interchange.
26 October 2007
- Colorado Freeway Exits: Updated the E-470 exit list with the opening of the flyover from northbound E-470 to westbound I-70.
23 September 2007
- Colorado Highways:
- Uploaded new info and photos from my Poudre Canyon/North Park road trip a couple weekends ago: US 40 (Muddy Pass), SH 14 (west end to Poudre Canyon), SH 125 and SH 127.
- Uploaded new marker info and photo for Jackson County on the County Numbering page.
12 September 2007
- Colorado Highways:
- I was poking around the state Motor Vehicle website and
discovered that the state has done away with emissions testing for
gasoline vehicles in Larimer, Weld and El Paso Counties. Way back in
January! Apparently there was no fanfare with this change. So I updated
the emissions testing section of the Facts page.
- Updated the Where I've Been page with my weekend Poudre Canyon/North Park roadtrip. Two more clinched highways: 14 and 127!
4 September 2007
- Colorado Highways:
- The state legislature changed a couple things with the chain law this year, so updated that section of the Facts page.
- The Northwest Parkway's concession agreement with Brisa/CCR was signed, so updated/expanded the info about it in the Northwest Parkway section.
29 July 2007
- Colorado Highways:
- Added two photos: US 160 at SH 41 (from Adam Froehlig) and the highly unusual Cimarron Bridge restrictor in Colorado Springs.
- Colorado Freeway Exits:
- I'm a little behind the curve. The new simple -- but very
effective -- interchange at I-25 and Nevada/Rockrimmon in Colorado
Springs opened in May, eliminating the old left exit on SB I-25.
Updated the I-25 exit list.
12 June 2007
- Colorado Highways:
- Added a blurb to the SH 5 listing about the USFS fee controversy that erupted this spring.
- Added a section in the Northwest Parkway info about Brisa/CCR taking over operation of the road.
- Colorado Freeway Exits:
- Six Flags no longer owns Elitch Gardens, so took that out of the I-25 listing for it.
- With University Hospital moving to Fitzsimons this week, took out the H symbol for I-70 at the Colorado Blvd exit and added it to the I-225 Colfax exit.
2 June 2007
- Colorado Highways:
- Okay kids, let this be a lesson to you: If you have a large
number of photos to upload to your website, don't let the backlog get
to be 9 months long. Because if you do, you may end up uploading a
whopping one hundred and eight photos at once like I am today. Photos include:
- Interstates: I-25 (University & Alameda in Denver), I-70 (Genesse & west Denver), and I-76.
- US Highways: 6 (Denver
& Sterling), 24 (south of Leadville), 34 (Kersey), BR 34 & BR
85 (Greeley), 36 (Estes Park), 85 (Greeley), 138, 285 (Kenosha Pass),
and 385 (Julesburg).
- SH Highways: 7 (Brighton), 14 (Briggsdale & Sterling), 37, 55, 56, 60, 63, 91, 113, 256, 263 and 392.
- E-470 (I-70 and Plaza C).
- County markers (Larimer, Logan, Sedgwick & Weld).
- General photos (Julesburg & Weld County).
- Signal photo (Brighton).
- On the Markers page, I've added a new section with photos of historic markers several people have sent me over the years.
28 May 2007
- General:
- Updated the About This Site page to list the Pentax digital camera I'm now using for my picture-taking.
- Colorado Highways:
- Added general info to the guide and expressway info sections about US 6, SH 14, SH 113, and US 138.
- Updated guide info for SH 55 and corrected the country road
that it becomes south of I-76. According to CDOT sources, it's CR 81,
not CR 83.
- Updated the site where I needed to regarding this spring's
North Front Range route swap: SH 37 (entirely turned back), SH 56
(section west of US 287 turned back), SH 66 (Estes Park section turned
back), SH 256 (entirely turned back), SH 263 (two separate sections
turned back), and SH 392 (two sections added).
- Added to I-70's roadway names list the two memorial
designations bestowed by the legislature this year: Gerald Ford
Memorial Highway in Eagle County and Mother Cabrini Memorial Highway in
Jefferson County.
- Corrected an error regarding US 385's interchange with US 138
in Julesburg (namely that I didn't mention it). Also added to the
history section the date the interchange was built.
- Added marker info on Logan and Sedgwick Counties to the County Numbering page.
- Updated the Where I've Been page to reflect my Memorial Weekend
roadtrip to northeast Colorado and Nebraska. I was able to list three
new highways as "clinched": SH 55, SH 113 and US 138. Also updated the
map to reflect the recent North Front Range turnbacks and add-ons to
the state highway system.
- Updated the Scenic and Historic Byway page to include the Top of the Rockies Byway extension over Independence Pass.
- Added MP (milepost) to the list of abbreviations I use on the About page.
- Colorado Freeway Exits;
- "Jefferson County Airport" apparently wasn't good enough, it's
now known as Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport. So I updated the US
36 exit list.
- Updated I-76 exit list at Brush (Exits 90-92) to better reflect what the signs say.
5 May 2007
- Colorado Highways:
- Added a blurb to the SH 67 history section about the long-term closure it had due to the July 2006 flood.
- Updated the history on the US 550 listing to reflect the different north end it had in Montrose until 1936, as pointed out to me by Scott Pekeris.
- In the Municipal Trivia section modified the narrative about Denver City & County since they now elect the Clerk/Recorder.
- Colorado Freeway Exits:
- Ken Johnson let me know the anticipated extension of SH 392 westward from I-25 has taken place.
- Added Dick's Sporting Goods Park to the Quebec St exits for I-270 and I-70. Johnson & Wales University is also now mentioned at the I-70 Quebec St exit.
- Upper Midwest Freeway Exits:
- Two minor revisions to the I-90 and I-94 lists courtesy Adam Froehlig.
31 March 2007
- Colorado Highways:
- Removed the Interstate 50th Anniversary page, since 2006 is over.
- Colorado Freeway Exits:
- A couple weeks ago CDOT closed the Fort Collins Poudre River
rest areas on I-25 and replaced them with a new off-interchange rest
area at Prospect Road. Updated the I-25 exit list accordingly.
3 March 2007
- Colorado Highways:
- What started out as a simple e-mail from Dale Sanderson morphed
into much more. I've made a far-reaching update to the historical info
of US 350, listing various changes to its routing in Trinidad and La Junta plus a former routing north of Beshoar Junction.
- Updated US 160 historical info with a more specific year it was probably moved onto the north Trinidad bypass: 1992.
- Added four places to my list of "non-towns": Beshoar Junction, Delhi, Thatcher and Tyrone.
- Colorado Freeway Exits:
- Oops: Northbound on I-25 in
Trinidad there's no exit to Colorado Ave, it's southbound only. Oh
well, I've had that wrong for only about 8 and a half years....
17 February 2007
- Colorado Highways:
- Update from Nicholas Cole: CDOT has upped the speed limit on US
287. It's now 60mph from Lafayette to SH 52 and 65mph from SH 52 to
Longmont, so updated the US 287 info.
- Three new photos from David Herrera posted: SH 96, US 285 at the NM border and US 160 at North La Veta Pass.
- Upper Midwest Freeway Exits:
- Poking around Chris Bessert's site, I discovered the highway
changes around Eau Claire were still going on. WI 178 has been rerouted
around the east side of Chippewa Falls and now intersects WI 29 at the
Seymour Cray interchange, so updated the WI 29 exit list accordingly.
13 January 2007
- Colorado Freeway Exits:
- CDOT has shuffled the exit numbers on northbound I-25 at the Colfax area, updated the exit listing.
- Denver renamed the eastern end of 48th Avenue to Green Valley Ranch Boulevard, so updated the Peña Boulevard
exit list. While I was at it, updated the listing for which airlines go
to which terminal, given recent changes. (Dang it! HootersAir doesn't fly into Denver anymore!)
