E-470 Tollway
- I-25 Stack.
Westbound on E-470 where it starts at I-25. May 1999
- E-470 Sign. An E-470
guide sign on NB Parker Road approaching the interchange with
E-470. At the time the picture was taken, E-470 was open only from
I-25 to Parker. December 1997
- Piney Creek and Arapahoe Road.
Northbound on E-470 looking through the dip down to Piney Creek and the
overpass at Arapahoe Road. This is approaching the Smoky Hill Road
interchange. October 2007
- Depressed Section South of Quincy.
South of Quincy Avenue E-470 has a section a couple miles long that is
depressed in an artificial cut. Here northbound you can see the slopes
left on each side due to the cut down. October 2007
- Jewell Ramp 2-Laning.
The northbound onramp at Jewell Avenue used to have just one lane at
the ramp booth, but here is the construction that was going on to add a
dedicated EXpressToll lane off to the right side. October 2007
- VMS Installation. Happened
to be driving by at the time there was a variable message sign being
installed in the median. Northbound north of Jewell. October 2007
- I-70 Interchange, Old Gun Club Road Alignment:
- Original E-470 Construction, Eastbound
on South Frontage Road, and Northbound
at I-70. Two photos taken in January 1999 while
E-470 was under construction (on the Gun Club Road alignment), showing the work still needing to be
done. In the first photo, the E-470 signs are turned sideways so
they can't be seen by traffic. Photos by Robert Halonen.
- Old Gun Club Road Alignment Northbound
and Southbound.
Back before the "Flyby" opened allowing through traffic to bypass the
signals, this is the stretch E-470 through traffic had to go through. May 1999
- E-470 Flyby (Bypassing I-70 Signals):
- I-70 Flyby Northbound. A shot on northbound E-470 going over the "Flyby" at the I-70 interchange, here approaching the 19th Avenue bridge. August 2006
- Northbound E-470 to Westbound I-70 Flyover:
- Opening Ceremony: The flyover creating the direct
connection from northbound E-470 to westbound I-70 opened on October
25, 2007. The theme for the event was "Head for the Hills", and
sponsors included the Ski Train and Winter Park. The ceremony was held
at the south end of the flyover. "Finished Line" banner • E-470 PHA Director Ed DeLozier • Rick Lawrence of Lawrence Construction Co. • Skateboarders imitating skiing down the flyover • Flyover with buses carrying ceremony attendees • Flyover up close • At the top of the flyover looking northwest toward Longs Peak
- View of E-470/I-70 Bridges. Looking north from the flyover one has a view of mainline E-470 going north and I-70 crossing underneath it. October 2007
- Flyover Northbound. On the ramp from northbound E-470 to westbound I-70, approaching the start of the flyover bridge. October 2007
- Merge to Westbound I-70.
The ramp from northbound E-470 to westbound I-70 features a section
that is barrier-separated from I-70 before merging onto it. This is to
prevent drivers from trying to swerve across three lanes of traffic to
get to the Colfax left exit from I-70. Here you can see the overhead
sign at the left exit. October 2007
- Northbound E-470 Signs for I-70:
- 1 Mile Advance Signs. At 6th Parkway. October 2007
- 1/2 Mile Advance Signs. North of 6th Parkway. October 2007
- Sign for Eastbound I-70 Ramp.
The first ramp on northbound E-470 at I-70 goes down the old Gun Club
Road alignment and can be used to access Colfax Ave, both directions of
I-70 and 19th Ave. But the primary overhead signs for it list only I-70
east since the flyover is used to get to westbound. This sign used to have a temporary mask on it listing both directions of I-70 for the period in 2006 and 2007 before the flyover opened. October 2007
- Sign for Westbound I-70 Flyover.
The second ramp at the interchange is the direct flyover to westbound
I-70. This overhead sign is unusual for Colorado in that it includes
the "pull through" for through traffic on its left side. Same sign a week earlier before the flyover opened. October 2007

overhead gagetry used for electronic toll collection. May 2007
