On Saturday, September 27, 2003, a get-together of regular contributors to the Colorado Highways site and/or Colorado regulars on the newsgroup misc.transport.road was held. The inspiration to hold the meeting came from similar meetings held in other parts of the country. We met at Bennett's BBQ in Centennial, where we introduced ourselves, ordered lunch and chatted. Dale Sanderson brought photos to pass around he took of old US 6 last year near Dillon which was exposed when Dillon Reservoir dropped due to the drought. We then headed out for a tour of the T-REX project on I-25 and I-225. Thanks to Kevin Flynn for getting T-REX spokesman Karen Morales to give us the tour, and her supplying the T-REX van to haul us around.
Attendees: Back Row (L-R): Kevin Flynn, Duncan Shaw, Dale

Front Row (L-R): Karen Morales, Robert Halonen, Shawn McDowell

New light rail bridge over Broadway looking east. The bridge curves
around the Gates Rubber building at right to head south along the
west side of I-25.
Retaining wall with "Farmfield/Swallow" pattern along the west side
of I-25 north of Franklin Street.
The Full House, the I-25/225 interchange, looking west. The top
flyover is the ramp for SB 25 to NB 225. The bottom roadway is SB 225
to SB 25, and above that is NB 25. The abandoned bridge third level
up is the old SB 25 to NB 225 bridge, which we got to hike up onto
for an expansive view of the interchange.
Looking south through the interchange from the abandoned bridge. In
the distance is the Union Avenue overpass. Far left is NB 25 on a
temporary alignment. In the middle is the temporary ramp for SB 225
to SB 25. At right is SB 25 traffic temporarily in the future
location of NB 25. Going across the top of the picture are the bottom
of the girders for the new SB 25 to NB 225 flyover.
Lower left is the temporary ramp for SB 225 to SB 25, while the
tunnel is the future connection for that movement. Above the tunnel
you can see SB 25 traffic temporarily in the future NB 25 lanes.

The light rail corridor, seen looking north south of Belleview
Avenue. The poles in the middle will support the overhead electrical
system for the trains.
"MILE HIGH TO T-REX" is stamped on the light rail rails. That's
because the steel for the rails is scrap from the demolished Mile
High Stadium, shipped to Pueblo for forging and then shipped back to
Denver. Photo courtesy Dale Sanderson.
